不知道她为什么又来到



这里，在这里她同约翰

吃过浸泡在糖醋里的



虾，在这里她教过他

如何使用筷子。在她吃的时候



她翻动《好管家》的书页，试着

阅读这个月中篇小说的



另一节。定必是个悲惨故事，

侍者想，看到她的眼泪。

作者薇尔达•莫吕斯(Wilda Morris)是伊利诺州诗人协会前任会长及芝加哥诗人与赞助者协会现任会长。作品经常得奖。她也是我们诗人工作坊的联系人，对诗歌活动非常热心积极。美华酒家是本地一间中国餐馆，我在阿冈国家研究所工作时，几乎每星期五都风雪无阻地和同组的同事们去那边午餐聊天。



At the China Chef

She sits alone, jacket hugging
her shoulders, sipping tea, picking

at scallops with straw mushrooms,
white rice, wondering why she came

here again, here where she and John
dined on shrimp drenched in sweet

and sour sauce, where she taught him
to hold chopsticks. As she eats, she turns

pages in Good Housekeeping, tries
to read another paragraph of this month's

novella. Must be a sad story,
the waiter thinks, seeing her tears.
