偶见一首好诗

腋窝堂堂兄弟

All day I've listened to the industry
of a single woodpecker, worrying the catalpa tree
just outside my window. Hard at his task,



his body is a hinge, a door knocker
to the cluttered house of memory in which
I can almost see my mother's face.



She is there, again, beyond the tree,
its slender pods and heart-shaped leaves,
hanging wet sheets on the line -- each one



a thin white screen between us. So insistent
is this woodpecker, I'm sure
he must be looking for something else -- not simply



the beetles and grubs inside, but some other gift
the tree might hold. All day he's been at work,
tireless, making the green hearts flutter.

一整天，我在倾听这只啄木鸟

发出的声音，为窗外那棵黄金树

担忧。他的任务艰巨，身体



好似一条铰链，或一个敲门人

正对着记忆中那座凌乱的屋子

我几乎见到了母亲的面容。



她出现了，又一次，在树的后面，

它那纤细的枝桠和心形的叶片

悬挂着像一排排潮湿的被单——



片片白色细薄的屏幕挡在我们中间。

这只啄木鸟是那样急切，我敢肯定

他是在找寻着什么——不仅仅是



甲壳虫或幼虫，还有其他的礼物

——黄金树所拥有的。他全天工作着，

不知疲倦，扑扇着那颗有力的心脏。

娜塔莎·特雷塞韦（Natasha Trethewey，1966年— ），美国埃默里大学创意写作教授，诗人、历史学家。美国普利策诗歌奖获得者，也是1993年至2012年的首位非洲裔美国桂冠诗人，以及历史上获授此职的第二位美国南方人。其诗歌深入个人或群体、童年或百年前的历史表层之下，探索人们皆须面对的人类斗争。代表作品如诗集《国民卫队》。

啄木鸟，黄金树的寓意，记忆中那座凌乱的屋子，我几乎见到了母亲的面容。读来心中很是感叹。
